The Extron FOX 3G I/O SM P board is available as an option for the FOX Matrix Series modular fiber optic matrix switchers, and enables the transmission and distribution of fiber optic 3G-SDI signals, including pathological signals, over singlemode fiber optic cabling. The board offers an 8x8 or 16x16 configuration for switching and distribution of signals up to 2.97 Gbps, including 3G-SDI, HD-SDI, and SDI. With the board, a FOX Matrix switcher can be configured as a dedicated 3G-SDI matrix switcher, or with a combination of 3G-SDI and fiber optic matrix switching solutions. The FOX 3G I/O SM P board can pass pathological signals, including those defined by RP 178 and RP 198, and is compliant with SMPTE 297-2006, 259M, 292M, 424M, and ITU digital video standards.

The FOX 3G I/O SM P is hot-swappable for board addition or replacement in the field. The FOX Matrix 14400 can be configured with the 16x16 FOX 3G I/O SM P board, and the FOX Matrix 7200 and FOX Matrix 3200 switchers can accept the 8x8 board. The FOX Matrix switchers provide separate bi-level and tri-level references for correct vertical interval switch timing.

For wide installations, the FOX 3G I/O SM P board enables connection to the FOX 3G HD-SDI fiber optic extender for 3G-SDI. Incoming signals from the FOX 3G HD-SDI can be routed through the board to remote FOX 3G HD-SDI units. Similarly, the signals can be output to a FOX 3G DVC fiber optic 3G-SDI to DVI and RGB/component converter for support of a flat panel or other display device.

In broadcast and production applications, a FOX Matrix switcher configured with FOX 3G I/O SM P boards offers expanded opportunities for system design when integrated with FOX 3G HD-SDI extenders and FOX 3G DVC converters. For example, this configuration can be used to route signals to and from local editing equipment, while also providing the capability to receive or transmit 3G-SDI signals very long distances to devices in remote locations, such as cameras and production monitors.

The FOX 3G I/O SM P is ideally suited for use in matrix switching applications such as large-venue digital signage, broadcast and production, rental and staging, and mission-critical systems.
