Extron Introduces the TPX 88 Twisted Pair Matrix Switcher

September 2002) – Extron Electronics is pleased to announce a new dimension in audio and video signal distribution over twisted pair wiring technology—the ability to create twisted pair systems with the Extron TPX 88 Twisted Pair Matrix switcher. Now, routing and switching high-resolution RGB, video, and stereo audio signals utilizing low-cost Extron Skew-Free™ AV UTP or CAT 5/5e/6 unshielded twisted pair cable (UTP) is possible, simplifying system design and integration. Extron twisted pair products help system integrators maintain professional video quality over cable runs while taking advantage of the reduced cost, weight, size, and ease of termination found with twisted pair cable. The Extron TPX 88 offers two models: the TPX 88 and the TPX 88 A with local audio out. Each model accepts high-resolution RGBHV, RGBS, RGsB, RsGsBs, component video, progressive component video, S-video, composite video, and stereo audio transmissions up to 1600x1200 with scan rates from 15-130 kHz from Extron and Inline twisted pair transmitters and routes them through to a corresponding receiver and display. Both inputs and outputs are on RJ-45 connectors. The TPX 88 A also allows a digital audio signal converted by an Extron transmitter to be decoded back to analog for separate output via 5-pin captive screw connectors to an external audio system. Each model includes features such as global presets for recalling predetermined configurations, as well as various control options, such as via RS-232/422, the Extron MCP 1000 and MKP 1000 control panels and keypads, or front panel. Audio can be optimized through input gain/attenuation adjustments, local audio output volume adjustments, and the audio breakaway feature.
