Anaheim, California (June 2, 2021) - Nottingham Trent University, founded in 1843, has over 30,000 students enrolled at five campuses. In early 2020, the university had plans to subdivide existing space to create more classrooms for a growing student population. Then COVID-19 hit the UK, bringing new social distancing requirements. The need for more space became even more acute. AV systems for new classrooms had to be flexible to support changing room arrangements and to scale AV deployment up or down. To meet this need, the university worked with AV integrator Roche Audio Visual and Extron to design, build, and deploy 110 AV Stands featuring 65" flat panel displays and sound bars. The Stands have a permanent look yet are easy to relocate, with connectivity over the university network via Extron NAV® Pro AV over IP. Leveraging existing network infrastructure allowed all 110 Stands to be deployed in only two weeks over the Summer 2020 break.
“We decided on a one size fits all custom solution to achieve expedited deployment with a predictable per-unit budget,” says Graeme Bagley, Teaching Space Designer at NTU. “Timely delivery, established partnerships, and strong support were key factors when selecting the system integrator and component suppliers.”
“A project of this scale utilizing traditional AV switching and transmission technologies would have been impossible to complete within the two-week window,” says Peter Midgle, Sales Director at Roche AV. “Roche AV and the University are incredibly pleased with the streamlined commissioning phase thanks to utilization of NAV Pro AV over IP.”
The system is comprised of Primary Stands and Secondary Stands. Primary Stands originate the AV content, which is viewed locally and distributed over the network for viewing on up to five associated Secondary Stands. The unique combination of an Extron switcher with Extron control makes it easy for students to display any available AV content source, including HDMI from a built-in PC or content shared wirelessly from BYOD devices via Miracast™ or Apple TV. The network connectivity provided by Extron NAV Pro AV over IP makes relocating a stand from one room to another fast and simple, with a power cord and an Ethernet cable being the only two connections involved.
