Extron Introduces New HDMI Long Distance Extender
Anaheim, California (June 7, 2006) - Extron Electronics introduces the
HDMI 201 HDMI Extender, a transmitter and receiver set for sending HDMI - High Definition Multimedia Interface signals over long distances using conventional twisted pair cabling such as CAT 5e, CAT 6, and CAT 7. It fully supports HDMI for extending digital video, multi-channel audio, and control signals from HDMI-equipped devices. The HDMI 201 is capable of transmitting HDTV signals over 200 feet (60 meters) and computer-video signals over 100 feet (30 meters) at UXGA (1600 x 1200) resolution. This high performance HDMI extender is ideal for residential applications as well as various commercial environments where HDMI content needs to be transmitted over long distances.
"The new HDMI 201 offers integrators the opportunity to incorporate HDMI into new and existing installations using low-cost UTP cabling," says Lee Dodson, vice president of marketing for Extron. "As the use of HDMI-equipped sources and displays increases, so will the need for an infrastructure to support HDMI signals throughout a system or facility." The HDMI 201 is HDCP compliant, fully supporting long distance transmission of HDCP - High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection signals, used for copy protection of HDTV broadcasts and high resolution content from DVD players and HD set-top boxes. For convenient, streamlined system integration, RS-232 signals can be transmitted along with the HDMI signals, enabling remote display control. Additionally, either the transmitter or receiver can be remotely powered, so that only one of the devices requires external power. The HDMI 201 Tx transmitter and HDMI 201 Rx receiver are housed in 1" high, quarter rack width metal enclosures.
